December Staff Spotlight - Thomas Tran

As a trained dentist, Dr Thomas Tran has been working for Green Valley Dental for over a year. Thomas prides himself on debunking the stereotype that going to the dentist is an unpleasant experience.

“To me this (stereotype exists) because people were not told beforehand why they needed treatment or their options,” he says. “An explanation goes a long way!”

Thomas also has his own techniques to make sure you are as comfortable as possible during any procedures, including sharing x-rays with you and making sure any questions you have are answered.

“Every patient is different and every tooth in every patient is different so knowing what stage the tooth is at and what it needs to continue functioning is something I strive to have all my patients know,” he said.

“For me, the most intimidating part is getting the local anaesthetic or the injection - the mouth is a very personal space and you have to put a lot of trust in the dentist to do the right thing by you. To make the experience as comfortable as possible, I put some numbing gel on the area prior to slowly injecting the anaesthetic. I also like to guide the breathing and let you know what you should be feeling at each stage so that you know what to expect.”

It isn’t just the treatment Thomas loves, though. His favourite part of his job is hearing your stories and hearing what tips you might have for him. Thomas also makes a mean pumpkin soup!

His biggest tip around the area, though?

“Those dingy looking restaurants in Cabramatta are still open for a reason! They make some of the best food you will find in Sydney!”
