The Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) at Green Valley Dental

At Green Valley Dental, we participate in the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). This program is a voluntary initiative amongst dental practitioners to provide basic dental services to children. As a local children's dentist, we believe in the importance of maintaining proper dental care for all children, and the CDBS allows us (and many other dental practices) to do so!

What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides basic dental services to children between 2 and 17 years old, providing them with basic dental services up to $1,000 in value. The payment of benefits under the scheme is administered through the Department of Human Services under the Australian Government, and was introduced so that all families have access to proper dental treatment for their children.

The dental services covered by the CDBS include:
  • Routine check-ups, x-rays and examinations
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Fillings and extractions
  • Root canals
  • Fissure sealing
  • Partial dentures.
The scheme does not cover Orthodontics, cosmetic dental work or hospital-based dental services, and some restrictions may apply to which services are covered, depending on the practice.

How do I check if my child is eligible?

The eligibility of children to receive these services is assessed at the start of each calendar year by the Department of Human Services. A child is eligible if they fall between the ages of 2 and 17 during any given calendar year, qualify for Medicare, and receive relevant Australian government payment. These payments include:
  • Family Tax Benefit Part A
  • Parenting Payment
  • Double Orphan Pension Payments
Families will be notified at the beginning of each year if their children are eligible for treatment.

How much is the out-of-pocket cost for these services?

If you find yourself asking this question, you are in luck! Green Valley Dental offers bulk billing, meaning there is no out-of-pocket costs for your family! When you come in for your appointment, we can talk you through this process to make sure you are fully aware of all the financial details. As each eligible child is allocated $1,000 worth of services, we will make sure to properly examine your child's needs, so that they get the best care possible.
